The contestants entertained the audience with youthful, effervescent songs and dances before a three-member jury including musician Nguyen Hai Phong, singer Tung Duong and writer Phan Huyen Thu.
The opening round, broadcast live on Vietnam Television Channels 2, 4 and 6, was the first of ten events that will take place on consecutive Saturdays until August 11.
The biennial singing competition has been held by Vietnam Television since 2004 to promote music across the country and discover new talent for the Vietnamese musical stage.
In this year’s contest, the crooners will also have the chance to visit well-known attractions in Hue such as the World Heritage Hue monuments complex, Phuoc Tich ancient town, Tam Giang Lagoon, and Lang Co Bay, while enjoying the city’s famous culinary specialities.
