In the first 5 months of 2012, Dong Thap Province has welcomed more than 730,000 tourist arrivals as well as 19,000 int’l arrivals with total revenue of VND 81 billion, up to 18.28% over the same period last year.
Thanks to natural ecological surroundings, rare fauna and flora system and tourist sites like tomb of Junior Doctoral Laureate of Court Exams Nguyen Sinh Sac, father of President Ho Chi Minh, Huynh Thuy Le's Ancient House, flower village of Sa Dec, Tram Chim National Park, Gao Giong cajuput forest, Xeo Quit eco-tourism web site, Dong Thap is more and more attracting tourists to visit. Especially, Tram Chim National Park has been recognized because the fourth Ramsar site in Vietnam and also the 2000th around the world.
Moreover, Gao Giong eco-tourist site was also referred to as the garden of birds with 1,700 ha of area, as well as 250 ha of primary forest, with natural aquatic life and numerous birds like very little cormorants, teals, herons…
According to the Gao Giong Forest Management Board, the area boasts the biggest herb of white storks in Dong Thap Muoi, in which Co oc (Anastomus oscitans) is listed as rare species within the Vietnam Red Book so the Management Board is enhancing protection of the birds to serve bird-watching target of tourists.
It is expected that Dong Thap Province can welcome 2.1 million tourists and reach a turnover of VND360 billion (USD one7 million) by 2015.
