They're about 1 km southeast from Cat Ba town over a steep headland; and are able to be reached on foot or by motorcycle (about 3000d). There's a 7000d entry fee to the beaches.

The two beaches are separated by a tiny hillock which will be climbed over in about twenty minutes. However; take the simpler route along a new; 700m; wood seaside walkway round the mountain. Cat Co a pair of is that the less busy and more impressive of the two; and additionally offers easy accommodation and camping.

On weekends, the beaches are crowded with Vietnamese tourists and become messy with litter; however throughout the week the crowds diminish.

The key beaches; with the exception of those at Cat Ba city itself; are Cai Vieng; Hong Xoai Be together with Hong Xoai Lon.
