FOUR interactive information points have been installed at visitor hotspots across rural Conwy.
The Conwy Rural Partnership has secured funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 for a project to install interactive tourist information points at visitor hotspots across rural Conwy and the first screen has been installed this week at Glasdir rural development centre in Llanrwst.
The project aims to boost tourism in rural areas and the touch-screen tourist information points will offer details about the huge range of things to see and do in the area.
Visitors will be able to view local accommodation, as well as up-to-date traffic information, public transport information, events and attractions, either by using the touch screen or by using their mobile phone as a remote control.
Further live content interaction and downloads are also possible to those using a smart phone, by simply scanning a unique bar code the user is able to view their selected information beyond the information point.

Cllr Goronwy Edwards, cabinet member for communities said: “I’m pleased to see the first of these information points installed in Llanrwst and I hope that they will provide a vital service for visitors to the area and a useful information point for the rest of us.”
The project received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
Town mayor Cllr Christine Humphrys said that the information point is an asset to the historic market town. She said: “I will encourage everyone to use it. I think the new touch-screen information point will be an asset to not only Llanrwst but the whole of the Conwy Valley, but local businesses have to remember to return their forms to Conwy County Council if they want to be included on it otherwise it will just point visitors towards the coast and all the facilities they can offer.
“Llanrwst and the rest of the Conwy Valley have a unique and varied host of businesses and services to offer locals and visitors a like.”
The other information points will be found in Pentrefoelas- operational in next few weeks. At Treetops Adventure, Betws-y-Coed – to be installed at end of year, and also by Dolwyddelan Spar – once planning is approval.
