An Hien Garden House is famous in Hue City

Located in Xuan Hoa Village, Huong Long Commune, Hue City on an area of 4,608m².

This was place where the 18th daughter of Duc Duc Emperor live in the first time. After 1895, it had been transferred to Mr. Pham Dang Thap, a son of a high-ranking mandarin of Gia Long reign. In 1920, this house was transferred to Mr. Tung Le. The last owner of this house was Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chi, a province chief. He lived there in 1938. When he died, his wife-Mrs. Dao Thi Yen continued to live in that house. She was the person who led the school boycott of Dong Khanh students against the French colonialism in 1927. Then she became the Principal of Dong Khanh High School, member of the sixth and seventh National Assembly, and a commissioner of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee. Therefore, An Hien Garden House is closely connected with the name, age, life and cause of an active nationalist who had a good contribution to Hue City.

The gate of the house has an ancient arch style. The gate roof is adorned with a tiger-face figure and stylized styles on either side. In the middle of the gate, from the surface, below the roof is a book-shaped panel embossed within the wall. A brick board of 2 Chinese characters that means An Hien is inlaid with items of green and white terracotta in the black background. Higher than the panel, there are symmetrically 2 bats spreading their wings and searching down the gate. Right below the book-shaped panel is a colorfully and elegantly tiger-faced figure in an semicircular form.

An Hien Garden has been described as a fine, sharp, and distinctive work by several writers. In the garden, several varieties of flowers grow. There are standard varieties of flowers like jasmine, pergularia, pomegranate, sunflower, climbing rose and indigenous roses.

Aristocratic flowers contains all types of orchids and land orchids. Besides the trendy roses imported from the European GauJard and Meilland companies, you are be able to notice wild tomentose roses. Especially, the garden features a huge camellia presented by a Japanese Flower Association. Besides the flower abundance, the garden also has several precious fruit-trees yielding year-around sweet fruits such as mangosteen, durian, Thieu litchi, particularly Tien Dien persimmon that are brought from Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh Province by a great-grandchild of the great poet Nguyen Du as a gift for Mr. And Mrs. Nguyen Dinh Chi. This is a precious and rare quite persimmon; it bears terribly delicious seedless fruits each July.

An Hien Garden House is a special cultural characteristic contributing to the beauty of Hue. Coming to the garden, you will have a sense of living in a miniature universe, in a peaceful and charming world. It has an attraction which is always secret as an unfinished book.
